Make your STAY-cation a SAFE-cation – Just a couple of important checks to remember when looking at buying a family caravan.

After spending so much more time at home than usual this year, many families are looking forward to planning new adventures and thinking of a staycation holiday that’s safe for all. When looking to buy your first or new to you caravan, we understand there may seem a lot of information to decipher such as layouts, towing weights and warranties but one of the most important factors in buying a caravan is safety.

Whenever you purchase a new to you caravan, you need to ensure it is fully working, compliant with current legislation and roadworthy. Just like with a car, regular servicing and maintenance of your caravan will make all the difference. Although not a legal requirement the NCC (National Caravan Council) recommend an annual service with an Approved Workshop. In essence, an Approved Workshop will carry out rigorous checks using an NCC standard checklist. NCC AWS engineers are fully qualified to carry out a service and keep your caravan safe. A service covers wearable parts, such as breakaway cables, brake pads, and one-shot nuts and is a requirement of Warranty Providers. (For more information on this see our article on What does ‘Approved Workshop mean) .

Buying from an NCC Approved Dealership such as Teesside Caravans means that the caravan or motor home will have a full Pre-Delivery Inspection which is an in-depth, detailed examination of the systems and features of the caravan including –

Inspection of the safety critical elements

Gas soundness check

Electrics

Full damp inspection

Wheels and tyres

Any items that need work, replacing or adjusting will be corrected at this stage. At Teesside Caravans this is carried out by FULLY QUALIFIED NCC APPROVED TECHNICIANS and is included free with the purchase of your caravan. It is not just a ‘Hab Check’ which is a habitation inspection only more accustomed to motor homes.

NCC AWS Workshops services will have paperwork (similar to that for a car service) as proof of completion and if NCC Approved Workshop a sticker placed on the caravan with the year of service (see image).

So… ask the question

“When was the caravan last serviced?”

Don’t risk the safety of your family or their future holidays.

It takes just a few questions to get the reassurance you need to know that your welcoming home away from home is ready and waiting to provide the ultimate Safe-cation.
